Reviewing and managing your coding can be as important as coding itself. This tutorial shows you how to use the coding stripes and highlighter tools to review your data. You can review a transcript or code (node) to see what has been coded to and to where. These tools work with text and all media files such as audio, video or images:

Coding Stripes Video Summary
This video demonstrates how to use coding stripes in NVivo to review coded data, using Dorothy’s transcript as an example. It covers how to access coding stripes, select items to view, and interact with stripes to highlight, uncoded text, or explore other coded data.
Highlights
- 🖱️ Accessing coding stripes: Open coding stripes by clicking the icon at the top of the detail view, offering options to view recent or selected coding items.
- 🎨 Viewing coded data: Choose selected items to view specific themes, with stripes colour-coded to match the codes assigned to the text.
- 🔍 Interacting with stripes: Clicking a stripe highlights the coded comment in the corresponding colour, and you can uncoded passages or double-click to explore other data linked to the code.
- 🔄 Viewing format: The display can be switched from vertical to horizontal for better visualization of the stripes.
Highlighter Video Summary
This video demonstrates how to use the highlighting tool in conjunction with or independent of coding stripes in NVivo. It shows how to highlight specific coded segments in interviews, such as Barbara’s, by selecting codes from a folder. The highlighting tool works across different file types, including multimedia, surveys, and PDFs.
Highlights
- ✨ Highlighting Tool: Allows users to visually mark coded sections in the interview by selecting the desired codes from the folder.
- 📂 Flexible Selection: You can highlight individual codes or entire folders, making it easier to manage multiple coding categories.
- 🎥 Works Across File Types: The tool functions on all coachable files, such as multimedia surveys and PDFs, offering a versatile way to track coding across various formats.
